Degree Requirements
Master of Science in Nutrition
Note: The degree requirements for the M.S. in Nutrition degree are under revision. Current students are still subject to the current requirements. New students will be subject to the revised requirements.
1. Nutrition Required Courses: 12 semester hours
Certain areas of knowledge must be mastered by all nutritionists. Upon review of transcripts a student may be required to satisfactorily complete these courses.
NUTR 5470: Human Nutrition and Metabolism
NUTR 5477: Medical Nutrition Therapy II
NUTR 6255: Nutrition in Adults and the Elderly
NUTR 6245: Maternal and Pediatric Nutrition
2. Core Requirements: 14 semester hours
NUTR 6325: Advanced Nutrition I
3. Synthesis/Research Capstone or Thesis Option: 4 - 9 semester hours
4. Nutrition Electives
Students choose Nutrition electives for minimum of 30 credit hours as established in the degree plan with the graduate advisor. Within these additional courses, one course must be didactic course in Nutrition.
5. Additional Course Requirements
In addition, students may select electives to meet the requirements for the Didactic Program in Dietetics (DPD). Students may be required to complete other courses in order to meet these didactic requirements. Students apply separately to the DPD. Please consult with the DPD director.
6. Comprehensive Understanding Requirements
Completion of the M.S. in Nutrition degree requires the student to pass all parts of the comprehensive examination. The comprehensive examination covers material related to the core, and as appropriate, the selected concentration of the student. The comprehensive examination includes both written and oral components, and should be taken during the student's last year of study.
